Marc, I think of you every day. Whether it's a funny card
that I come across or something on tv that I know would make you laugh,
like commercials with talking animals. And I can hear you laugh that laugh.
The one that sounds like it's coming from the soles of your shoes. That
laugh that was so distinctly you. Every time I turn on the radio I'm reminded
of you. Certain songs make me remember the times when you used to walk
through the house turning on all the radios so that we would all have to
listen to your music. Now I keep those songs on just so I can be reminded
of you. When we were growing up, you never failed to remind me of how "cool"
you were. I don't think you realized it, but I really did think you were
cool. I liked growing up being "Marc's little sister". There was a certain
notoriety about the title which I really enjoyed. As an adult, I admired
the work you did as a firefighter. I talked about you all the time. I knew
you had worked hard to become a firefighter and I was proud of you. In
one of our last conversations, you had told me that you really liked helping
people. I was surprised. Not because I didn't know that about you, because
I did. But it was because I had never heard you say anything like that
before with such honesty. I knew you meant it, and I knew the work you
did meant so much to you. Marc, you were loved by so many. You made us
laugh. You made me laugh. Even now, you still have the ability to bring
a smile to my face. I miss you. Love, Mary

Marc, I only regret that we missed so much of your growing up by
living so far apart. I will always remember how much we laughed during
our last phone conversation! All your aunts and uncles miss you and think
of you every day. Please shine down on us all. Love, Aunt Catherine and

Marc, how quickly life turns off course. I will miss you always.
We always had the greatest times when we were together. Just today I thought
about the road trip we last took. I was on my way to take a city of Orange
test. I remember the first night we pulled off the road because we were
exhausted. It was out by Redrock, it was pitch black where we parked and
slept. I remember that morning waking up and seeing the beauty of the rock
formations that were all around us. We hadn't even realized they were out
there. I really wish you were here now to see the beauty of each new day.
You represnted so much to so many. I doubt you ever knew that. I wish I
could have seen you with your badge on. I think that little piece of metal
represents everything you wanted to be. You inspired me to be more and
do more. I will carry your memory with me always. You once told me you
and I were kindred souls, and I believe that. I hope you can hear the bagpipes.
Your friend always, Pat Kelley

Marc, It seems like yesterday that we had lunch with you at Spanish
Hills in celebration of your graduation from the Fire Academy in Oxnard.
That day was a great occasion for you, your family and your friends to
see you achieve something that you worked so hard for. It was also a special
day for Sally and I to be able to spend time with you and get to know you
better. I could quickly tell that you are truly one of the nicest, most
honest, friendly men I have had the honor of meeting. This earth will be
a much sadder place in losing a wonderful person like you, but it is already
a better place from your presence for 34 years. Our deepest condolences
to Rosemary, Alan and their entire family on this saddest of occasions.
We also congratulate you on having raised such an impressive person as
Marc and hope he prays for us while enjoying the ultimate achievement of
eternal happiness in Heaven.

Marc, you will be missed. I don't think you really knew how much
you were loved and by how many. I'm still amazed by how many people you
have touched. You've left a big void in many, many hearts, including mine.
Your sense of humor and your way of looking at life was certainly unique
to say the least. I'm sorry we did not get to spend more time together.
You really made me feel welcome in the Dugard family and I enjoyed our
talks. I tried to help you out the best I could, I wish I could have done
more. I think we all feel that way. Well, buddy, take care. Keep an watchful
eye out for all of us until we meet again. To the Dugard family, my deepest
sympathy. We all miss him very much.

So many memories. So many close calls. When I look back on hanging
with Marc and the boys growing up its a wonder I'm still alive (and not
incarcerated!) The pain will never subside. It will only change. Whenever
I think of Marc, there will always be a tear in the corner of my eye, but
my eyes are looking forward now. My eyes ponder future vistas, and I dedicate
much of the work I am doing to Marc's spirit. May it live on forever. The
only thing that surpassed Marc's sense of humor was his loyalty to his
friends and compassion towards others. Too bad you can't get paid for just
being a friend, because Marc would have been a millionaire. He had sooo
many friends and touched so many lives. Each in such a personal and esoteric
way. Marc was someone to everyone who knew him. I would get these ascerbic
messages on my machine that seemingly lasted into eternity. It drove my
roommate crazy at first, then he actually started to enjoy them. Then he
started to save the tapes of Marc's diatribe. Eventually, my roommate started
talking to Marc when Marc would call. That's Marc. Friend to everyone.
He was my best friend and I loved him deeply (and platonically!) One question....how
many of you have cats.....? Do you trust them?

Marc,I'll miss you more than you will ever know. I was looking forward
to growing old with you. Who else could make me laugh like did? I think
of you every day. Everytime I see a firefighter or a firetruck, I think
of you. Thanks for being part of Team MQ and sending someone to pull me
out of the bay last week. It was my first time in a firetruck. Somehow,
I think you had something to do with it. I'll miss you forever and will
never forget the love I have for you.xoxo,Q

To Marc Dugard's family, I worked on the Angels National Forest
with your son. He was always there to crack a joke and make people laugh.
He was also a very hard worker. I am deeply saddened by your loss. Although,
I didn't know Marc all that well, I will definately miss him. He made me
laugh so many times I can't even count. I know that it is rough to loose
a loved one in this this way, for Ilost my father the same way, but what
is important is to remember how much of an impact that person had on all
of our lives. Marc will truly be missed. My deepest condoleneces go out
all all of Marc's family and friends. He is a great person and God is with
him now. Sincerely, Byron Sayre

The family of Firefighter Marc A. Dugard is profoundly touched by
the expressions of sympathy that have been extended to us at the loss of
our son. Marc truly loved being a firefighter more than anything else he
could have done. His work on earth is now over and it will never be night
again. He will not need lamplight or sunlight because the Lord God will
be shining on him. We will always hold firefighters in our hearts and prayers
as they are very special people with a very special calling. God bless.

To all of you who have sent messages of condolence to the Dugard
family and to every firefighter. Marc loved being a firefighter. He was
happiest when he was surrounded by those who loved their work as much as
he did and I know that he will be at your side when you most need help
as he wanted to be where he could do the most good. I know that God had
a need for him to help watch over you. Thanks for your support and prayers.

"When I am called to duty, God..wherever flames may rage, give me
strength to save a life, whatever be it's age..Help me embrace a little
child..before it is too late, or save and older person from, the horror
of that fate. Enable me to be alert and...hear the weakest shout, and quickly
and efficiently, to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling, and..to
give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor, and protect his property.
And if according to my fate..I am to lose my life, please..bless with your
protecting hand..my children and my wife." Gone but not forgotton.

Fire is a mysterious beast. It ignites our greatest fears and leaves
us with a sense of helplessness. Its beauty is rivaled only by its power.
It consumes without prejudice and threatens all that we love. I guess that
is why God created firefighters. And that is why heaven reserves a place
for these heroic souls. My condolences to Marc's family and friends.
