Condolences and Reflections for

Dale Earnhardt, Sr., 49
"The Intimidator"

February 18, 2001

"A good Man and Father gone to Heaven way too soon..."

i would like to express my deepest sympathys to the Earnhardt family, I can't imagine what they have gone through. Whether you were an avid race fan or just a casual observer, you can't live in this country and not know who Dale Earnhardt was. I truly beleive that Dale is in Heaven now and I think each Sunday he and Adam Petty get together to watch the race, I think Dale watches over Adam up there and together they watch over their buddies each week and keep them safe. I think that if Dale could, he would tell us not to mourn his death, but to celebrate his life. And what a life it was.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Earnhardt family, nascar drivers, and friends! I was so crushed the day that Dale died. When I saw the wreck I knew he was gonna be ok because Dale Earnhardt was a strong man, but it seems that I was wrong. That day we lost the best nascar driver to ever set foot on the track. When I go to Charlotte this year for the Winston it is not gonna be the same as the last 3 years I have went because the "Intimidator" won't be there! I will be sure to cheer Earnhardt Jr. on.. he is now my favorite racecar driver. He is a very strong and brave man.. and I admire him for that! Well .. I would just like the Earnhardt family to know that they are in my prayers! LOVE YA ALWAYS DALE.. Amanda W.

I was in complete shock as I heard the news of Dale's passing away. I was just like the rest of the NASCAR community. It didn't look that bad. Surely not bad enough to take the life of a tough as nails driver like Ol' Ironhead. I have been an Earnhardt fan for a long time. I will always be a Dale Earnhardt fan. Kevin Harvick is doing your car justice Dale. I know your watching every week. I would swear that you were in the car last week when Kevin won the race. I had a crazy dream the other night that you and I were racing in the final race of 2001. You passed me on the final turn and won your eighth championship. I was a close second. I woke up happy. You will always be a part of me. I will never forget that smile of yours. To the Earnhardt family, I send my deepest sympathy. Time heals all wounds. GODSPEED DALE #3 will live forever in my heart.

i started as a Tony Stewart fan, and really thought that dale was was kinda mean in a way but i still loved him. When i realized what had happened to the racing community i was in shock. i really didnt beleive my ears, and what was being said. That night when i turned in for the night, it finally clicked in what ahd REALLY happened. what has happened is the worst thing that has went on in the nascar community. But, deep in my heart i know that he is having fun upstairs and taking the checkered flag every sunday, and NOT hitting the wall in a painfull way. Hes up there joking and playing and visting with his dad and all of his other friends that had left. So i know for sure that he has made himself right at home and is enjoying. As for the Earnhardt family, when you start thinking of him, remember all the good things he did for all, the racing family, and all the fun times you had with him and cry for everything he did. know that it will be hard but it the best thing that you can do. DALE JR, SHOW YOUR FATHER, AND THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU WHAT YOUR REALLY MADE OF, AND FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF YOUR IMDIMATING AND FAMOUS, LOVING FATHER!!!!!! PEACE.LOVE.HAPPINESS!!! Dale in my heart FOREVER!!

I went to work that morning, bags of food and pop, so excited to watch the 500. I have been a Dale fan his whole career. The rest of the race never mattered to me, except WHERE IS THAT BLACK #3 CAR, that is what every race has been to me, always!!! Now it was not only where is Dale, but also, WHERE IS LITTLE DALE, too!! Well, my buddy is giving me grief because he is a mopar man and I am a Chevy man (that poor guy) and Dale is running out front early on, I was so excited, yelling, etc... Then, such sweetness towards the end, Michael out front, little Dale next, then Dale!!!! I could not believe what happened, it did not look that bad, but it was. I am a flight nurse you see, so I was wondering what the hell happened, medically. It hurts to know he is gone, shocking. I used to go to my uncles house every Sunday and all us guys would sit in the garage and drink beer, watching the races. I was always looking for Dale, excited when he was winning and pissed off when he was not. Yeah sure he was the intimidator, but that is why I liked him. He had fire in his heart to win and he was awesome. He had a good heart, he was a good man. To the Earnhardt family, my deepest condolences, everyone will miss him deeply. I know it was tragic, I am very sad, but I also know when he went he was watching his son and Michael winning the 500 and he was content. Dale, You Da Man, thank you so much for your inspiration. I will think about you every race from here on out and you know I pullin for little E now!!! Rest well...

I'm a DJ fan, it started out that I was a Davy Allison fan, but we all loss him. So, none the less I pulled for Ernie, and then DJ. I hate that this happened. God work's in mysterious ways, but why did this have to happen? It was starting to race with the spirit of the old Earnhardt. I was hoping to see him race Little E several more years. Maybe even see them beat and bang on each other. We've all lost a friend, hero, and one the greatest drivers ever. God called, and Dale answered Him, know they are racing in heaven,( Who's driving the #3) from a story when Alan, and Davy passed on(the 3 being God's car). The only thing we can do is pick up our heads and keep going. My prayers our with the family and close friends of Dale. The two teams my thoughts our with them also. Racing want never be the same. God bless all of you dealing with the personal loss. Dale, Tell all of your falling comrades that has falling before you hello and let's get racing!!! God's speed Dale!!!!! You were the Greatest!!! My memories will never leave my mind of what kind of driver you were and person you was!!! Dale Jr., my friend take care of yourself and race with all of your heart!!! God Bless the racing world!!!! Although I am not an Earnhardt fan, I always watched racing since I was little and had to grow up with it in my family. My heart goes out to the Earnhardt family with the deepest sympathy. I have an eight year old step-daughter who was a big fan and it was real devastating to her to learn that the man she thought was God has passed on. He is in a better place, and Teresa and the rest of the family will be with him again someday. God Bless the Earnhardt family and the Nascar family. Nascar will never be the same. Terri

You eather liked him or hated him, but in everyone's heart he was number one. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but from all of the stories I have heard he was just as intimidating in person as what we saw on tv. But there was one diffrence, he had a heart of gold that nobody can ever match. I still can not believe he is gone. It doesn't seem right or fair. Dale's face is a face that we all believe would be around forever. Why we all got that idea I will never know, but the only thing I can figure is that it was his personality. A personality that we know we will never see again until we reach heaven. The only comfort that I can find is knowing that Dale is better off now and that I will one day see him again racing his number 3. My best wishes are with the Dale Earnhardt family. To Dale, don't be to intimidating on them in heaven as I know you will be. You have take the checked flag and I know that you at home enjoying your victory. We all love and miss you and thank you for everything you have done. Until we all meet again enjoying racing with your friends and the lord. Good-bye Jonathan and Angela Lewis

Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts are with the Earnhardt family. Dale was the greatest Nascar driver out there. Winston Cup racing will never be the same not seeing that black streak #3 coming up through the pack. We have all lost a legend and a great friend. He's gone for now and will definitely not be forgotten. He will always be in our hearts and prayers. God Bless.

I would like to send my deepest sympathy to the earnhardt family. last sunday i was at work, and some of my customers were getting ready to leave around 1:30 pm and were making comments about some of the drivers including BIG E and at that time i had a gut feeling telling me that he was not going to end that race that day. i was home and saw the accident involving tony stewart and the sickening feeling shook my whole being again. when dale hit the wall i knew he was gone. if you have seen the movie "the sixth sense" you would understand how i feel. it is a sickening feeling and i felt it when i first saw adam petty. i have not only felt this feeling about celebrities, but about normal special people in my life. my friend's son died in a bad car accident at the age of 3 yrs old and i knew long before he died that he was special but would not be on this earth for long. BIG E was not my favorite driver, even though i followed his racing career actually kyle petty is the one i like most not because of his racing, but because he does so much for children. i am heart broken over dale losing his life and also for his wife and 4 children. there is a customer who comes into my store who looks like dale and has been told by all that he does. i took a couple of pics of him i never got to see BIG E in person. i also have gotten a few momentos to keep An unopened bottle of sun drop series #2 the year dale won the winston cup champion and a beanbag car #3 and in the race where he drove the #3 painted red, white and blue oh the bottle of sun drop was dated 1980 these things i will cherish forever dale it is hard to believe you are gone but no one will ever forget you each race will forever be dedicated to you in our hearts i know that LITTLE E will make you proud and he is a strong man. i have cried this last week but now i am strong enough to go on so RIP#3

To the Earnhardt family: My family and I send our deepest heart felt condolences & prayers for the loss of Dale Sr. Even though I never got the privledge of meeting Dale in person, being a race fan since I was a child, I feel as if I've lost a member of my own family. I've prayed every night for God to confort (Matthew 5:4) each of you and give you the strength to carry on, as Dale would want you to. (Psalm 28:7), (Psalm 29:11), (Psalm 46:1). Everyone of us will someday face death, let's thank the Lord that He allowed Dale to face it while doing one of the things he enjoyed doing in this life. Dale may not have crossed the finish line in Daytona, but he crossed the finish line and took the checkered flag in Heaven. He is now in the presence of the Lord, his dad, Neil, Davey, Alan, Adam, K enny, and all the other's who have past on to be with the Lord. As hard as this has been for me personally, I can only try to imagine the heartache the Earnhardt's, & member's of D.E.I. & Childress Racing are facing. All I can say is place your trust in the Lord and he will give you strength to carry on. (Proverbs 3:5-6). Dale Sr. may not be with us physically, but I believe he's in our heart's to the point that his memory will live on forever, even in generation's to come who never got the priviledge to wittness his greatness as race car driver, or family man. God Bless.

l Earnhardt was not my number one race car driver nor was he my husbands. That does not mean that we didnt like him. He was the best nascar driver and he earned that. He was also a great man. When we heard the news all we could do was cry. As our tears fell we prayed for his family and in our hearts we know he is in better place with the lord. He was a wonderful man and that is something we should all be proud of. We should also learn a lesson from him. Be the best we can be and Do what we can to help others the way the good lord intended us to do. My best wishes to all.

When Dale died on Sunday, I felt like I lost someone in my own family not just my favorite racer. I could just only think of how it was for Teresa, Kerry, Kelly, Dale Jr. and Taylor. I hope that Dale is not mad at me for crying as much as I did. Now since Dale is gone NASCAR will never be the same. I never got the chance to meet Dale, but I know he was one of the nicest people ever, like his son, Dale Jr. But one day I will surely get the chance to meet him. DRIVE ON DALE! NASCAR and its legion of fans lost a hero Sunday. Among my first words, when I was able to regain my thoughts were to my wife, a loyal Dale Earnhardt Fan. "Dale didn't make it. Superman died today". We will all miss him and his "Intimidating" style of driving. NASCAR will search long and hard for a new hero. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Earnhardt family, DEI, RCR, Sterling Marlin and the NASCAR community. God Bless Dale Earnhardt.

Move on, Dale is dead, he is not a hero, never was never will be. If you want heroes to look up to, go to Arlington National Cemetary or over to the war memorials, there you will find real heroes. Get a grip on the important things in life and honor those that should be honored. Everyday people die doing their jobs, Dale was just another. MOVE ON!

Watching the race Sunday, I was in and out of the room for various reasons. When the wreck occured, my husband called for me and told me that Dale had wrecked and they were still working to get him out. Being busy at that moment, I told him I would be there in a minute. I was thinking to myself that it wasn't anything major. After all, crashes regularly occur in racing. When we found out that all was not alright, the depth of our grief was amazing. I decided to no longer watch Nascar. Since then I've changed my mind. Dale, Jr. will now be the one I give my allegiance to. Please know that your husband/father will be greatly missed. Not only because he was the best at his profession, but because he was also an obviously very special man. This week, I've heard a great deal about Dale Earnhardt. If only half of what I've heard is true, he was a remarkable man. I believe he was an incredibly hard worker, and a man who loved his family very deeply. The memorial service was nice. I personally am glad that the family kept control of it and refused to allow closeups of the mourners. Our prayers are with you all. GOD BLESS.

Where do I start? Dale was the only racer that I ever cheered for. From the first race that I watched with my Dad so many years ago, Dale was my man. When my Dad moved not but 5 min. away from his house, I was so excited. To just see where my hero lived to be that close was awsome. I remember stories from friends of the Earnhardt family, and just how human Dale truely was...... Dale I never got to actually meet you, but I didnt feel I had to, I already knew you. You were truely part of my family, and you will be deeply missed. We love you Dale, Say hello to God for me, ok. I cant wait to meet you up there with our Father. Joe Ericson

The last thing we expected to hear after the wreck on Sunday was that Dale had passed on. My entire family was astonished by his death. Though we never met him personally, it feels as though he is part of our family. The den at my parents home is a "Dale Earnhardt Shrine". It's hard to even walk into that room now. I couldn't imagine the hurt the Earnhardt Family is feeling right now. I know our family truly misses him. As I read through this guestbook, my eyes fill up with tears. He was an inspiration to so many fans. Our best wishes go out to the Earnhardt Family and everyone else who loved him. He may be gone in body, but his spirit will live on forever. No one will ever take the place of #3. God Bless.

I have never watched a race in my life until the Daytona 500..that Dale was tragically killed in...I just wanted to send my deepest sympathy to evreyone who was a close racing fan and whose favorite driver was Dale...also I would like to say that I know how it is to lose someone close to you...in the past year I (and my schooL) and lost 4 wonderful people and the weird thing is, is how you don't find out how *generous* a person is ...is until they are gone...I would like to send my heart-felt sympathy to the Earnhardt family and to the racing community.....GOD BLESS YOU DALE

In our home it has always been Earnhardt and Gordon. I was the Gordon fan and my husband Doug was the Earnhardt fan. It was always fun arguing over who was going to win. Now it feels like something is missing. It will be tough watching the race this Sunday and not seeing the black #3 car out there. We will miss you so much. Our hearts are so heavy for the Earnhardt family, as well as the racing team and fans. You will never be forgotten. Race on in heaven....friend. We love you.

We were so sorry and shocked to hear the news about Dale, David is a hobby driver and this type of thing goes along with that sport, but it is always hard to grasp the harsh reality until it happens. Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts go out to the entire earnhardt family in their time of need. We also send our sympathies to Childress Racing on their loss of a GRWT driver, the whole NASCAR community drivers and sponsors both as this has to be hard to deal with. We know how hard it is to lose one of your own, it happened to us last March. Our sympathies to all this has touched, God Bless you all and may peace and God go with you.

I don't know how to start writing something like this but something inside is missing now. I never saw you any closer than a few hundred feet or so. But i feel like we have been friends forever.I have watched you race for about 20 years I guess, and it's going to be so hard to watch a race again without seeing you in that black #3 car going around the track. When I found out that you were dead I didn't know what to say or how to feel. It really didn't sink in until the next day. I cried everytime it came to mind. Now that I'm 26 years old you were still to me like superman was to a young child. Nothing could hurt you and if it did you would always be right back. I wanted to wake up and it be a dream. You were a part of my family and everyday life year around. Not just during race season. There's a place in my heart that's empty now and it will never be filled again. I know you had so many fans but I feel I was your biggest. If I died right now and went to heaven, the first thing I would do is fall at Jesus' feet and thank him for saving my soul and my family's. The second thing I would do is ask Jesus if I could see Dale Earnhardt. Thank you Dale for being my hero. You were loved by many but you were especially loved by me. I'll see you when my time comes. Your greatest fan, Doug

To the Earnhardt family, our heart felt sympathies. We loved Dale, we never went to a race track, but, Sundays during race season were always set for watching Dale and urgeing him on to a win! We don't know if we will watch racing again, maybe, in time we will return, but for now, it will be hard NOT to root for our favorite. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dale's family and best of luck to Dale Jr. in any and all future races. We love you Dale, Mr. NASCAR!!!

Dale Earnhardt,Sr may you rest in peace. Although I personally feel you are in heaven as an angel of the Lord now I hope you can look down and see all of happiness and joy you brought into this world and how saddened we are by your departure. You were truly a hero and inspiration to many people both inside and outside of NASCAR. May your family find some kind of peace in the fact that as they mourn their tragic loss part of a nation mourns with them. Although nothing can bring you back your memory and legacy shall live on. Thank you Dale for alot of memories. May God be with them in their time of sorrrow. And may they have the strength and courage to move forward with you as their guardian angel. Goodbye Dale Earnhardt, Sr you will be missed but not forgotten.

I cannot tell you how heartbroken I am. Dale was my Nascar hero for as long as I can remember. He is the reason that I started watching Winston Cup races every Sunday with my husband. We each pick three drivers and at the end of the season, we add up the points. Dale was always on my list! I cried when he won Daytona. He had gone so long without a win, but I knew that wins were coming. I just can't imagine watching a race without "my old man"!! I cried when he won Daytona and I cried again at Daytona today. Racing will never be the same without him. (To "Little D", You have the ability to step into your Daddy's shoes. You have the guts! You are capable. Please, carry on with the Earnhardt Dream. Kyle does it in Adam's name, but I feel that your Daddy would want you to carry on as Dale Earnhardt, Jr. I know that he was SO proud of you. Before the crash, I know that he was tickled knowing that you guys were taking Daytona. I know your heart is broken, but carry on for your Dad! I lost my mom 11 years ago, and I know that the greatest gift you can give to a parent it to carry on !! Cry, Cry, Cry, and then dry it up and make them smile down at you!! I feel for you and keep you always in my prayers. I only wish that I had been able to come and see your Dad race. I always thought maybe next year we can afford it! I would have sold my truck had I known...) Karen in Pearland,TX

My husband got me interested in nascar afew years ago...He is a big fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr.And every sunday when there was a race on..he totally ignored me... I was jealous over big E.lol...then when Dale wrecked in I think 1996 and walked away from the wreck...refusing to be carried out on a stretcher...even though he had a cracked sterum!!.Dale earned all my respect that day !!!! Needless to say I then became a Dale Sr. fan often watching the races with my husband on sundays and keeping up with the latest in nascar....     We will miss you very much ! But we believe if you had to leave us this would be the way you wanted to go... Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, crew, fans and friends...

Dale and I go way back. We spent a lot of Sunday afternoons at my house, along with 42 of his buddies. He was a great driver, always kept you on the edge of your seat. You really never could tell what he was going to do to you, rough you up, or rub you out. So goes the name, "The Intimidator." But in the heat of it all, when he was under pressure the most, he was relaxed and ready to go with 2 handfulls of speed and nerves of steel. As for me, after a few too many rubs, there began an unseen attachment, yet I would experience his greatest triumphs and his lonliest defeats. As the years went by, I sometimes took for granted his excellence, and even rode with other drivers instead. I didn't know how close we were, until I felt the magnitude of his absence from my life. Of course the magnitude is greater for his family and probably hundreds of thousands of friends and fans of those who adored him. We all have a role to play in this life, and we all have a race to run. The Human Race. And for all who start the race for life, a finish line at the end. I like to believe Dale played his role for God, for his family, and for the world of racing. Dale ran his race and he was a winner to the end. His final race bears testimony to his legacy. His driver and his son, out in front of him, with himself trailing behind without it seems, any intention of taking away from the glory of Michael Waltrip or his son, the grand prize that lay ahead. Dale Sr. was surely blessed that day, and certainly deserved to win the race. The last race began normally, expectations were as high as the speed. What had seemed to be just another great race, would soon turn tragic, as cars crashed violently, Tony Stewart would crash and flip, but Dale escaped that crash cleanly before his final crash. The protection of the Lord was surely with every driver that day, and for His reason, a little closer to Dale. Dale was called to God's finish line that day, before or at the time of his greatest personal acheivement. Not unto death, but to victory, which belongs to The Lord, given a crown of life, and gloriously white wings, maybe a #3 on his back... Nobody will take the place of Dale. With his grin, and his incredible ability and talent, nobody will fill the tread that he left on Daytona and Nascar, like he did. Out on that track, his everyday life, he was feared yet respected, out there doing 087 miles per hour. He was always willing to try on other drivers colors or follow behind you to help you go faster... And now, in an instant, he is gone from our lives. Many greif stricken, including myself, wonder who can take the place of such a champion? Who can we root for now, to trust, respect and take the wheel in his stead? I believe Dale would have said, "My son." Just as The Lord wants all of us to trust in His son. To all those who mourn this tragic death, take comfort. Because when you go through your toughest race, with His Son, you will always be in Victory Lane. If the Lord inspired all of us to give Dale his nickname, "The Intimidator,", how he must be much more the same. He wants you to listen to what he has to say, because, just like Dale, He rubs you, and is behind you, pushing you, to help you get through this thing we call life, and He wants you to win! Trust the Lord, like Dale did, and He'll make you a winner just like Dale, up to and through your last race, and you'll not be defeated, just like Dale. Bless all who need comfort during this terrible tragedy which took the life of our beloved "Intimidator." Lena --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My fondest memories of Dale Earnhardt are watching how he was able to unite racing fans, friends and families together with such a tremendous power that even some of history's greatest leaders would envy him. He was the epitome of what it means to be a leader in his class and a winner by every definition whether you liked him or not. Like so many others, I will forever recall the days of watching Dale Earnhardt with other Nascar fans as he aroused every nerve of fans and foes alike. The man has passed on with honor in a sport that he so dearly loved such that each of us may know the price we must sometimes pay to achieve our dreams. Indeed, what a price it is to be happy. His memory and the bond he has created with families and fans all over will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace and his Nascar family find the strength to carry on.

I am not a huge Dale fan, I like a multitude of drivers, no one in particular. But I guess I liked him more than I thought.... I have shed many tears for him. God bless Dale! I'll be in those stands one day cheering for you and all the other greats gone ahead! A nascar fan..... Macie

i may not be an earnhardt fan but my thought and prayers are with teresa and her family in this time of mourning its hard to believe that this world has lost not only a great family man but also the greatest hero of all time i remember watching past races with the rivialry of earnhardt and wallace probably the best rivialry we will see for a while but its a tragic lost and as i sit here and type this all i can do is cry its like losing a family member or a best friend even though i personally did not know the man i appreciate what he stood for he not only was he a good man off the track but he was a fierce competitor on the track and for the races that he has raced with his son and is a great moment my prayers go out to michael waltrip as well because in his 12 year career dale was the only man to believe in him and when he was in victory lane sunday it was a extremely sad moment in his career that his mentor was not there to celebrate with him so dale thank you for all the great memories 7 winston cups championships 76 career wins 1 daytona 500 victory and only driver to win rookie of the year and a winston cup championship in back to back years you are the greatest and i hope you keep an eye out for your son

The loss of Dale has been like losing a member of my family. There is such a void that will never be filled again. I was a Earnhardt fan, then a Nascar fan! It is much to hard to say goodbye, so for now, it will be farewell.

It is so sad to see the loss of Nascar's great Dale Earnhardt and my heart goes out to the family. Dale was loved by so many and the loss of him is tragic. I have a brother who lived and breathed Dale Earnhardt who was so devistated with the news of his passing. My brother's dream has always been to race but I am afraid that he may never get his dream due to heart disease since birth for him. He has followed Dale's career and it kept him satisfied to watch Dale's career grow as it did. I know that for my brother and I am sure many others, the memory of Dale will live on forever. Dale was, in my eyes, a hero to my brother which kept my brother's faith of life alive. My condolences go out to Dale's family and friends and fans around the world. Dale was what made Nascar exciting for me to see my brother happy to watch him in action and I will miss him.

hi there i jsut want to say i know how the earnhardt family feels for i lost my mother 2 years in feb.I know deep in my heart that he will be deeply missed.my husband was one of the biggest fans of dale. he has stuff all over our house of him. i want dale jr, to know that his dad will always be there with him when he wins a race and watching over him for i know this because of a poem i found in my moms purse when she died and we had it read at her funeral and i would like to share it all with you to let you know DALE is still with us..... it is tiled... I'm Not Here!! Don't stand by my grave and weep.... I'm not there,I do not sleep.... I am a thousand winds that blow.... I am the diamonds glint on snow.... I am the sunlight on ripened rain. When you awaken in the morning hush.... I am the swift uplifting rush.... Of quiet birds in circle flight.... I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry... I am not there! I did not die! I want you all to read this poem and relize no matter what happens to our love ones they are always with us for they did not die we have the memorys and the times shared with them in our hearts forever and they will always be there watching over us every single day. well on this note I say DALE we love you and know you are always there...

I've truly lost my hero. He was a one of a kind just like my other hero John Wayne. It's ok to grieve, but we must not be selfish. He would want us to move on and keep the sport he so dearly loved alive and thriving no matter how hard it is for us to do. He is in lifes Victory Circle now.

Just a correction to a previous message. I apologize for pointing fingers @ Mr. Marlin. Dale would not have wanted it that way. They were racing just the way Dale wanted it. He's still saying "that's racing" and that's what he did. He WAS a racer and knew the consequences each time he got in that car as all racers do. We will forever miss our beloved Intimidator. He will be the one waving the checkered flag! God Bless You Dale and thank you for what you gave to us. Thank God for giving us the time we had.

Its been two days and I still can't believe that Dale is gone. I feel like I have lost a family member. When you watch the races every weekend you begin to feel like you know every racer personally. My thoughts and prayers are with Dale's family and his NASCAR family. One thing is for sure, it takes a very spiritual person to climb into those cars every week. I know he is in a better place.

John Andretti said it best.."I feel like I've been punched in the stomach". There's no other way to put it. I have lost immediate family members in the past and this is just how it feels. This man WAS a member of our families. He came into our homes every Sunday afternoon. I feel a great sense of loss and my heart is very empty. We will never know why God chose to take our beloved "Intimidator" away from us so tragically, deliberately and abruptly and in front of hundreds of thousands of adoring fans. It is something that will test your faith. I know that it has my own. Maybe in time we will come to accept the fact that he is now longer among us, but that day won't come for a very long time. I have never shed so many tears for a man that I never met or knew and I'm afraid that I have many more tears yet to cry for NASCAR'S GREATEST DRIVER. There will never be another. No one can EVER fill the void. Many may try, yet they will all fail. I know that Jr. will have the courage and strength to go on and race for DEI as Dale Sr. will always be with him whereever he goes. I pray that the drivers for DEI go out each Sunday and give it their all, carry everything our Intimidator taught them out there on the track and make it known that though Dale Earnhardt may no longer be behind the wheel of the #3, he will be in the hearts and minds of his drivers and he will be behind the wheel of 3 cars now...#8, #1 & #15. God Bless and Keep the Earnhardt family; families of DEI and RCR. What a devastating blow this will be to NASCAR. If they do not have some type of memorial to their GREATEST DRIVER and show some respect, they will certainly lose a lot of racing fans. I hope that doesn't happen. NASCAR should step up and do what is right and moral. I hope that Sterling Marlin can live with what he's done.

I have been a fan of Dale Earnhardts for many years. I am the same age as him only my birthday is April 17, 1951. I knew that I would take it hard if anything happened to Dale but I never knew that I would feel like I do now. I feel like I have lost of member of my family and I have this empty feeling, that I can't explain, in my heart. Although I was a fan for many years, I never made it to a race until the last race of 2000. I was so excited to see Dale Earnhardts car going around the track. After the race I knew that I had to go to another one and try to meet him in person. So I got my tickets for the Dover race and also got the Monster Mile pass, hoping that I would get to meet him and tell him how much I thought of him. Now I will never be able to shake his hand or talk to him in person but I can tell his family that he was the greatest driver and man that I ever knew. You could see it in his eyes and in his smile that he had a great love for life and people. I hope that this in some way helps ease your pain knowing that someone who never met him is going through the same grief and pain. I wish his family all the best in the world and I hope that with time their hearts will mend. Try to remember all the good times and remember that he will always be in our hearts. I will get to meet him at the race track in heaven. We love you Dale!!!!!!

My sincerest and deepest condolences go out to the family and close friends of Dale Earnhardt. I have been a fan of #3 since I was about 13. I am now 23. Ever since I bought my very first car, it has always been covered with #3's and Dale Earnhardt's signatures. I had a big #3 specially made to fit the entire area of my sunroof, and my headlight covers had #3's on them just like Dale's car, not to mention the floor mats and other various stickers. My father was planning to buy me two tickets to the race at Hialeah Speedway this year in November, since I never got to go last year. I was really hoping to at least get to see Dale with my own two eyes instead of on T.V. I will still be there dressed in my #3 hat, shirt and jacket, because even though Dale won't be out there racing, I know he'll be watching and he'll be there in spirit. Little E, best of luck in the future, again, my deepest condolences......He will be FOREVER missed!!!!

Race day will never again be the same in our home. Time was marked from one race until the next. February was awaited with great expectations and excitement each year. Dale's unbridled love of the sport, his skill and his compassion towards others has always been an example to follow. Through the saddness, a light glimmers when reflecting on Dale's accomplishments and his love of life during his all too brief stay with us. Rest happily knowing you touched so many lives in so many different ways.

We all know the inherent danger in racing, but when something of this magnitude happens it shocks us and we say things like "how did this happen?" or "why did he have to die?". None of these questions will ever be answered. At this point I am thankful that I had the privilage of going to one of your races and being one of the thousands of people cheering for you (even thought you were a lap down-texas'97) . Dale- you may not ever race again, but each one of your loving fans hearts are your race tracks now. Please be a guiding angel for your son Dale jr. as your father was for you. Garth Brook's song "The Dance" always makes me cry, but now I have even more reason to cry. Garth is going to have to add another verse to his song. I've loved watching Dale from the beginning and it's just not going to be the same. NASCAR died Sunday night. There was only one Dale Earnhardt and now our hearts will have a hole in them. God doesn't ask us for our opinions, but I know every thing he does is for a reason. I just wasn't ready to give up the best NASCAR driver ever. I will still smile every time I see your face, but now it will be joined with a tear of loss. To Dale I want to say "Thanks for "The Dance", and rest now with God". To Dale's family and friends, my prayers are with you. We have all lost a friend, that some of us never even met. Godspeed Dale. #3is#1

Dale Earnhardt was a great man. I deeply admired who he was and what he stood for. He was a husband, father, friend, and a hero to his many fans around the world. We are left with many great memories of this man whose life touched us all. The world is a poorer place without him, and his presence can never be replaced. I'll miss Dale terribly. I'll miss watching him bang it up on the track. I'll miss seeing him at track-side with his family, reveling in the love they shared for each other. He was a role model for us all, and we owe it to Dale's memory to try to be more like the person he was. We love you Dale, and you will be sorely missed by us all! I have lost many loved one's, and I know that the pain and sorrow felt by the Earnhardt family must be unbearable. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I pray that time heal the pain you feel, but never fade the memories you have of this man that meant so much to us all.

Wow, it is hard on the heart, the tears just keep flowing. I've read so many of the heartfelt remarks and it is amazing how many lives he touched. He was the reason I would watch a race and for whatever reason he would be out of a race I would lose interest and usually turn it off or change the channel. He "was" Nascar and it will never be the same but in his memory I am going to watch Sundays races from now on. To the Earnhardt family I send my deepest sympathy and may God be with you all in this time of sorrow. RIP #3 You will be sadly missed for a long, long time. Always a fan, Bonnie Adkins

I cant tell you how very sad I am to sit and watch all the memories of Dales life on TV. I am a big NASCAR fan and I still cant believe he is gone. It doesnt seem real. He was a wonderful man, and was looked up to by so many. I know he will never be forgotton. In the past few days I have heard many things about him and his life but one thing that stuck out was when someone said Richard Petty is the King of NASCAR but Dale Earnhardt is a God. My heart goes out to Dale's family and friends. NASCAR will never be the same. My dad, who died 2 years ago this month, was a big fan of his too. I know they will both be watching all the races yet to come together. =) To Dale...watch over Dale Jr and all of your racing friends, they need your strength, your heart, and your support. You truelly are the legend, and you will be so misses by so many. #3..gone but not forgotton.

He didn't bad mouth other drivers and always wanted to help others. The world will miss Dale Earnhardt in the #3 car. A great man was lost and so many people are touched. I was in Fontana Calif when Greg Moore died after striking the wall at a speed of close to, 200 Mph. I am a big race fan and I will never forget that day. Dale was my favorite Nascar driver; sorry Richard but this guy was better! It never ceases to amaze me that we can take a car and run it about 200 Mph. and we are still using concrete walls for our primary barrier. There are a lot of smart people in this world, can't we do better than concrete walls? Is it time to stop the improvements to the car and think about the track? I think so. Loved your style Dale, I will miss your determination and competitive spirit. Rest in peace, Kevin

It is hard to believe that "The Intimidator" is gone. Words are nearly meaningless now. I think Richad Petty said it all after Adam's death, "You never get over it, you just learn to live with it." After being a fan of auto racing for the past eight years it amazing how you get familiar with the drivers, seeing them every Sunday on the track...and the man I have always followed is the Man in Black. Earnhardt is an individual that race fans are so very proud of, his tough tatics and his great sense of humor. My condolences go out to the Earnhardt family. As I watched the race yesterday It was evident as always Dale had "The Love Of The Chase". Down to the very end he played hard and was enjoying it. Not only has NASCAR lost a great driver, but we have lost a great Icon. I am sure Jeff Gordon will always remember that one finger wave from Dale after bumping him on the track yesterday. What more can you say for a racing LEGEND!
