First of all I would like to say that I am deeply sorry for all of these tragic shootings. I feel and will pray for the families of the fallen victims and their families. I'ts just such an emotional thing to happen. And especially for Stacey for I knew her very well because we worked side by side for quite awhile at the Memphis Postal facility on So. Third. She was so full of life and always smiling and laughing. A little crazy sometimes in a funny way. She had always spoken her mind too. At that particular time we were allowed radios at work and would dance the latest dances with some of our other female coworkwers. Stacey I truly miss you and will pray for the children and Herman and the rest of the family. Love Jackie

Firefighters around the world approach each response with the thought that this call could place them in ultimate danger, and exact the ultimate price upon them. Yet they continue, for the protection and safety of both public and private concerns. We should be proud to have known such men. Our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to all the families. We are truly blessed that these men cared so much for us.

WORDS ALONE CAN'T EXPRESS THE PAIN THAT RIPPED THE SHERRIF'S OFFICE WHEN THE WORD CAME DOWN THAT WE LOST ANOTHER ONE OF OUR OWN ALONG WITH MEMPHIS FIREFIGHTERS AND CIVILIANS. FOR MOST THIS JOB IS THANKLESS, THE PUBLIC DOSEN'T WANT YOU AROUND UNTIL THEY NEED HELP AND OUR OWN DEPARTMENT RARELY EXPRESSES THANKS FOR JOBS WELL DONE. THE OUTPOURING OF FLOWERS,CARDS, AND MONEY THE PUBLIC DONATED TO SHOW SUPPORT SHOWS THAT SOME DO CARE THAT THERE ARE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SACRIFICE ON A DAILY BASIS TO PROTECT THE CITIZENS OF MEMPHIS AND SHELBY COUNTY. THESE MEN GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. THE PUBLIC WILL SOON FORGET WHAT HAPPENED THAT DAY. YOUR FELLOW OFFICERS CAN NEVER FORGET!

I am deeply saddened and devastated about the shooting rampage tragedy of 03/08/00 that took the lives of 2 firemen, a deputy sheriff and a postal worker. Something is terribly wrong in our community and there are a lot of crazy people out there. Yet, in spite of all the evil forces that prevail in this world,we should still try to do our part to make this a better stage in our spiritual development. I would like to send my deepest sympathy to the families of Officer Rupert Peete, Javier Lerma, Blakemore and Stacy Williams. We are all in this together, and nobody knows what can happen to anyone. In spite of all the violence, selfishness and evil in this world, I still dare to believe that there are good people out there that want to help and make a difference. If there is anything that I can do to help the victims's families other than this message and a financial support, please feel free to let me know. May God help you get through this ordeal. Although many things aren't fair and we may never know why tragedies like this happen, we still have a mission and something good will come out of it: human beings will be less selfish and more compassionate with their brothers and sisters. Love, Leny.

My heartfelt condolences to those families touched by this tragety. Our firefighters and police are put in positions where their lives are on the line everyday....we sometimes lose sight of this. These people choose this profession because of something inside them that tells them they must do this. They risk their lives to save others. We must make sure that those whose lives were taken are always remembered. Memphis Firefighters are some of the most dedicated and professional in the United States. Let us not forget their sacrifice.

Words cannot describe the sorrow we feel for the families of Sheriff's Deputy Rupert Peete, Lt. Javier Lerma and Pvt. William Blakemore. I stood on Poplar, watching the possession, amazed at the sight of the firefighters paying tribute to a fellow firefighter some of them had never met. Each day, these brave men and women risk thier lives to ensure our safety. Each day, we whom they serve should give thanks. My wife and I pray that God will give the families peace in thier hearts knowing that those who have fallen are in the arms of the God that created all.

I know that nothing any of us can say will in any way lessen the pain of what has happened, but I just wanted to share what I believe about the situation. I have had many trials and tribulations in my life which God has used to teach me and make me the person I have become. One thing stands out in my mind which has grown to comfort me in such times. Romans 8:28 says that all things work together for the good of those who love God. This has proven true in my life, and I believe with all my heart that God has a reason for everything He allows to happen. His eye is on the sparrow, so how much more does He watch over us? I know it doesnt seem like it at the time, but God loves us uncconditionally. I will be praying for all of you and may you have the peace and joy that can be found in God alone.

AS A RESIDENT OF MEMPHIS, MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL OF THE FAMILIES THAT LOST FAMILY MEMBERS AND THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY BECAUSE WE ALL SUFFERED A GREAT LOSS. HOWEVER, TO THE FAMILY OF STACY WILLIAMS, I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY. THE CHILDREN OF STACY WILLIAMS LOST BOTH PARENTS. I UNDERSTAND HER FIRST CHILD WAS A CHILD FROM THE FIRST MARRIAGE AND HE NOW WITH HIS FATHER, BUT UNDERSTAND MY POINT AS A MOTHER, IF THERE WERE ANYTHING EVER TO HAPPEN TO ME, MY MOST IMPORTANT WISH WOULD BE FOR MY CHILDREN TO REMAIN TOGETHER. I CAN ONLY HOPE THESE TWO FAMILIES CAN COME TOGETHER AND KEEP THE CHILDREN OF STACY WILLIAMS AS CLOSE AS A BROTHER AND SISTER COULD BE AND NOT MAKE THEM STRANGERS TO EACH OTHER

I just wanted to say that when the chief told the news media how nice Rupert Peete was, he did not exaggerate. I first met Rupert as a fellow classmate in the Academy. We became friends and would often go to lunch together. I work the Charlie shift and Peete worked the Adam shift. I would often see him in the mornings when I was going home and he was going to work. I too can say that I never heard him say anything negative about anyone or any thing. We used to kid each other in the academy about which one of us was the old man in the class. It turns out it was me. I will miss you Peete. Mary asked me to keep an eye out for them when I patrol at night and I will. My heart goes out to them and to the families of Firemen Lt. Lerma and W. Blakemore and to the children who lost their mother. I hope the lawyers and judges who handle domestic violence cases can find a way to stem the tide of violence so that we don't lose good men this way. I will never forget the sacrifice you have made for us.

This incident was to close to me to not say something. I was in Memphis for the first time a week before this happend visiting relatives who lived in Germantown. When I saw the house on CNN my heart dropped. I was nervous at first thinking it was my cousin's house but after furious phone calls found out it wasn't. Just the thought of Popular Avenue, St Francis Church, Bay Hollow. These things I passed everyday to get to my relatives and the school where I took my cousins to class one morning. It was just too much to not say something on this message board. I wish it just didn't happened. My prayers go out to all in Memphis and the families.

While my heart goes out to all of the families of those who died last week, I think it is important to remember how many people are out there who can still be saved. There has been a lot of emphasis placed on the calculated risk involved in serving the community, but not much said about the senseless loss of the first victim. I do not mean to offend those who are or know police officers and firemen, but for too many people it has been the safe road to concentrate on them as heroes rather than face the ugly truth of what was happening in the Williams' home - and what happens in homes all over this country every day. Read the story at http://gomemphis.com/capages/12stacnu.htm Does this sound like anybody you know? Learn about the cycle of violence, about how deceiving it is to see only the good days, and how to help your friends, neighbors and family BEFORE they get a page like this. Learn how to see signals, and don't worry about hurting someone's feelings. If you know a Fred Williams, don't ignore his problems and assume he'll work it out. If you know a Gwen Jones (Stacey's mother), as much as it may offend some of you to hear, tell her that faith and prayer are not always enough. And if you know a Stacey Williams, and there are a lot out there, please - PLEASE - help her to see that sometimes the best way to love someone is not to hold on tighter but to let him go. Sometimes giving a person as emotionally injured as Fred Williams the benefit of the doubt is the worst thing you can do. Stop treating mental illness as a dirty secret, and stop playing off domestic violence as a private issue. I think if you really look, you'll see that the greatest threat in the most recent tragedies has always been silence. The greatest tribute any of you can pay to all of those victims is to make sure it doesn't happen again.

When I learned about what had happened I had just gotten home from an after school practice. I was very shocked to hear what had happened, that it had occured so close to where members of my family had been at the time. I was shocked even more when I heard the name Rupert Peete. I did not know Mr. Peete very well but I do know his son. I could only think of his son because I only knew one person by that name. I was in a sort of state of denial. I have lost two people in my family that I was very close to. Although I have never lost a parent, I know what it feels like to suffer through the loss of a loved one. Although I am not familiar with the other three victims my heart does go out to them and also their families. To the Family of Rupert H. Peete, Jr. I would like to let you know that on behalf of myself and my family we share in your pain. My heart goes out to the two young girls, their brother, their mother, and the rest of the family. When I went through the loss of my grandfather(natural causes)and my cousin(cancer)I had to constantly tell myself that they were waiting for me in Heaven, that they were saving places for me and my family so that once again we could all be together. I hope this helps.

Having just moved from Memphis a year ago....I can still see the house where this tragedy occurred. It was just a couple of blocks from where I lived at the time. I passed by it several times a day...driving or walking. I see it now as a reminder that, regardless of where we live, senseless, random acts of violence are rampant. What we MUST do as individuals, as a community and a world is to seek God and His Will....through prayer we will come to know His Love, His Mercy, His Forgivness and His Will for us. Regardless of race or gender, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and we must band together to pray for our world, our society, our loved ones and each other. Through prayer we will find the comfort of our grieving....wrapped in the loving arms of Jesus. He sees our tears and hears our prayers. Seek the Kingdom of God and we will be delivered. I send my prayers to everyone, especially the families of those who lost their loved ones that they will feel God's presence and it will comfort them. I pray for the city of Memphis, that they will set aside their racial tensions and that they will bond together as one community....supportive of one another, taking care of one another and being their for one another. There is no other time than the present. There is no tomorrow until God grants us the sunrise in the morning. We know not when He will call us home, therefore, we must spend each moment seeking the Will of God, asking for His guidance and praying for our world and its salvation. God Bless each of us, God Bless the true heros of our communities....the firefighters and police officers who lay their lives on the line for us each and every day so that we may sleep safer at night, drive safely to work and make it safely home to our families. As I sit here with tears in my eyes & a heavy heart, I wanted to convey condolences on behalf of myself and my son, Aziah (A.Y.) Nunley, to the families of the shooting rampage victims. I feel as though I have lost loved ones as well; this really hurts. We feel your pain. This can happen anytime, anyplace, anywhere and to anybody. Know that God is in every plan & has His reasons, no matter what the situation or tragedy. They were on loan and now the Master needs them at home. The Master is in the healing business, the blessing business. He is good; all the time. Our prayers are with you now & always for strength in this time of need.

I was very sadden to hear about the lost of all involved. GOD can and will heal all pains, wounds, & sorrys. I look to the hills from which cometh my help my help cometh from the LORD. I went to school with Stacey Williams, she lived about 4 houses down from me. Very loving and caring always laughing and smiling. She will truly be missed. I feel truly blessed to have known her and pray for her son and daughter, Your mother was truly a wonderful person. I knew Officer Peete breifly but he was the kind and gentle man discribed. The morning I was issued a citation from him he only greeted me kindness and with a smile. Again may GOD Bless and keep all involved and know that GOD is good ALL THE TIME....

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteous for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presences of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalms 23

I would like to say, that my prayers are wiyh the families of the heroes, lost in the line of duty. Once a volunteer firefighter for my city, it got next to me as I drove into Memphis, Saturday at noon. Once one has performed the duty of those lost in Memphis, it always toches your heart when one is lost. those guys answered a call, that was suppose to be routine, instead they lost their lives. As I seen the fire trucks with ladders raised high flying the American flag, my eyes began water. The only question that still puzzles me is, How can a brother take the life of another brother that fights so hard to save lives of other? Those guys I didn't know persnally but, they will never be forgotten. In a moment like this, just turn to GOD for help. I'm trully sadden for the families of those lost, and MAY THE GOOD LORD BLESS YOU ALL!

At this time of great sadness in our City, I have such strong emotions. I sat at my computer and read the story of the first funeral with tears in my eyes. I can only imagine the pain of all those involved. My deepest sympathy and apologies go to the family and friends of all of these for our society somehow failing to help a very sick man before such a tragedy occurred. I pray we can all identify such problems and seek the proper assistance for such people in the future - before more tragedies occur. I also would like to say how proud I am of my retired firefighter Dad, and also how grateful I am that we have been somehow allowed to have him with us today. I thank the Lord for this blessing and wish I could share it with these others that are in such pain. May God bless you in this time. You are in my tears and prayers!

It has sadden my heart to hear of my brother firefighters dying doing what comes so natural for us in the fire service, the protection of live and property. When all is at stake during a crisis most people pray to God for help, then they call the fire service. This is a great feeling to be ranked up there on the list of someone to call on in time of need. I know God has a great pain in his heart for those who's life was cut short doing what his own Son did for all of us, Greater Love Hath No Man Than To Lay Down His Life For A Stranger. My condolences goes out to all the families and friends of those whos life was taken on this dark day. May God hold you all in his loving arms and watch over you in the days to come.

I knew Deputy Rupert Peete very well for many years and words cannot express the loss i am feeling. I love ya man. Deputy Peete as well as the two firefighters taken from us all, embody the word hero. They gave the ultimate sacrifice for what they loved to do, helping people. Nothing is more honorable. God Is Our Keeper Lord we need You. We need Your precious Holy Spirit to lead us along the way. This world turns moment by moment... The children are bringing guns to school Taking lives without any guilt. The FOOL has said in his heart that there is no God to save us. But heaven and earth, proclaim your glory. My heavenly Father there is none like You. Lives are lost, at the hands of mad men cost. Drinking is made legal, And drugs are easier to buy. Why lock them up, you, man ,made the laws. They have taken prayer ou of the schools. What do you expect, when a six years old child pain, takes another child life. Heavenly Father we need You from day to day I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth God is our Keeper

I was home sick on Wed. when the breaking news came on the television. I was shocked to hear what had just happened and i immediately began praying for the firemen and the police officer. I prayed that that guy was shot dead. I can do nothing for the families that have lost there loved ones, but i can pray for there loss. This is so unfortunate and i still cannot believe that someone would do a thing like this, to their own. I wonder if this was premeditated. Memphis and Shelby County are both grieving on the loss of three great men who were dedicated and committed to protecting and serving there citizens. There is a part of me that wishes he would get the death penalty, but then they say that living with the reality of what one has done is the worst suffering of all. And although, we greive for these men who died so violently, i must also pray for the women who died as well, we have not spoken much of her, but i feel for her son. and i also thank god that he was not at home, for we know that there would have ben five bodies instead of four. All my thoughts, and prayers go out to all the families. Please continue doing a good job protecting and saving lives. Robin Cox Memphis, TN

To All The Families that are affected by this great tragedy. As a Memphian, I am very saddened that it happened here, but even moreso that it happened at all. There are so many things that we don't understand, but in time,God will reveal to us all "WHY". The Bible says that "...in the world we shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I (Jesus) have overcome the world." Life is so uncertain, but having God by our side makes it easier to bear. I am deeply touched by this tragedy and am praying for all who are affected by it. I live just a few blocks away from the scene, and I'm sure that I won't soon forget this. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families of the firefighters and to my family in the loss of my first cousin, Rupert Peete, the Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy. Living abroad leaves one so helpless in times like these. To the families of all and to the Fire and Sheriff's Departments, keep the faith. Your labor is not in vain!

Dear Memphis Firefighters: Knowing that the next few days are going to be so very difficult for each of you, I pray that you may find peace in the truth that those who serve in any capacity would often chose to go to their maker doing what they feel that their purpose was while here on earth. We are so sorry that you each must endure the terrrible pain and sadness that this sitution brings. We are praying for all of you. God's Peace. Love, Mary Horwitz

I want to give my most heart felt condolences to the families that lost a brave, loving, and sympathetic member of the city and county not to mention a family member. I am a volunteer in my area for any Fire,EMS, and Sherriff deputy and I know the dedication that the lost loved ones had for their jobs, whether paid or volunteer, makes one feel special to help others. The senseless insanity of this tradgedy is going to impact all of us even if were not natural family members we all feel bonded by the love and commitment to serve for the community we live in. May God keep his loving hand on all of you who puts their life on the line to make our lives safer and more secure, the communities will mourn the loss of these fallen "HEROES" who just wanted to help us and keep us safe from harm. God will help us to deal with this disaster to the people and families of this area because he is the one who made us and the one who never lets us down. I commend all public service officers, firefighters and paramedics, keep your eyes to God and he will overcome any sadness and turn it into honor for all.

It is with deep and heartfelt regret that I offer you my condolences during this tragic time of loss. We cannot know God's will but we can lean on him during times such as these. It is only with him that we can begin to receive peace. As a 12 year veteran in the firefighting service, I feel they died doing the job they loved. Again, I offer you my most sincere condolences.

It is not uncommon for Firefighters and Law Enforcement personnel to risk their lives every day. But to be taken down in such a way makes it that much more tragic. My deepest condolences to the families, friends, relatives, and co-workers of all those involved.
