As a native Santa Barbara resident, I was both shocked and appalled at the horrific tragedy that occurred two weeks ago. I kept thinking it could have been anyone. I can not believe that one impulsive action could take the lives of four beautiful people and seriously injure another, and never in Santa Barbara. I hope that we may all learn from this and realize how important it is to just listen to others, even if it is a stranger. Sometimes all it takes is a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on to make someone feel better. Through the numerous tragedies that have occurred lately, it is imperative that we realize how important it is to treat others with respect, friends or strangers. It was once said that "some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our heart and we are never ever the same" (Source Unknown). Although I did not personally know anyone involved in this terrible incident, I know that I will never forget them, each was a beautiful person who graced this world with their presence. I am so sorry for the pain we all must endure. My heart goes out to all of you in this difficult time, I love you all!

There are no words to express the pain and sorrow we feel. Elie and Molly found happiness and true love that most of us only hope for.In an instant their hopes and dreams were shattered. I will never forget Elie's smile. He smiled from his heart. We will never know why this happened or why these beautiful young people were taken from us. I know that I am a better person becuase Elie touched my life. To the family and friends of Ruthie, Chris and Nick, you are in my prayers. God bless all of us.

It could have been my brother or my sister. It is strange but at moments it feels like it could be. I can never walk the streets of IV again without remembering these four people and everyone that loves them.

What a tragic loss of potential. I can hardly get through my day without thinking about chris. I took my young kids up to the snow wednesday, and as we caught snow flakes in our hands, and marveled at their beauty, I was overcome by the thought that Chris will never again behold a snowflake. All that would be is now gone forever, in a random senseless violent act. My daughter attended highschool and ucsb with chris. He was the sweetest, kindest young man. So very intelligent. He treated my daughter the way a mother would want her daughter to be treated. He was loved by many, and now missed by everyone. This entire tragedy has made me hold each of my children tighter, and I am sure to tell all those near and dear to me how much they mean to me each day. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all the families of the young adults.

Our prayers go out to all of you, Shary, Art and Bert, our former neighbors in San Rafael, when our girls, your Ruth or "our Ruthie," as we used to call her, and our daughter Lindsay used to play together from the time they were three and five years old. How Ruth loved to dance. They would make up the most creative dances and plays...We will never forget her smile, her sweet, gentle spirit... Love, The Mayers
