My deepest sympathy to the Mobilio family. Dave was my roommate while he was attending Butte College. I had a great amount of fun teasing Dave and enjoying his company around the house. He used to walk around the house with his shirt off, flexing his muscles to make all of us laugh. He ate more sushi in one sitting then I have ever seen another human being eat, since. I did not hear of his death until yesterday-almost 3 years after this tragedy. I am very sorry to hear of his death and pray for his family.

I first met Dave when he gave me a ticket for running a stop sign that was removed 3 weeks later. He was a customer in the place that I worked, and after many months of giving him a hard time about it, we became friendly. I was always happy to see him and also got to know his wife and son a little. When he became the new DARE officer at Jackson Heights, my daughter was one of his first students. I had just started my new job with the State of CA when I heard the news and it was such a shock. I will always think of Dave when I see any police car. I have been reading the article in the Bee this week and just want to cry. I hope Linda and Luke are well and can move on with their lives. Dave was a wonderful man who deserves to be honered in every way possible.

I had no idea that this site was available, otherwise I would’ve written much sooner. To Linda and Luke, Laurie and Dick, Lynne, John and Tyler, to Helen, Todd, and Sallie and all their families and the rest of the extended, incredibly wonderful Follansbees and Mobilios and Nicitas and Dunnings: I never met David, but heard much about him during his youth and into adulthood, and I know that he was a truly wonderful guy. Todd -- your tribute to David brought me to tears – it was written beautifully. I’m so sorry that I was not there in person to express my condolences. To all of you, and especially to Linda and Luke, my heart and prayers are with you. I know that your beloved David is watching over you. God bless you all.

I am deeply saddened by what has happened. Andy Mobilio, you'll always be remembered as the days go by. Red Bluff won't be the same in ways without you here. By this act hopefully now people will relize that cops aren't just cops they are citizens just like you and I. Just because they wear blue, hold a badge, and carry a gun doesn't mean he's different. He chose to be a cop not to herras us but to help and protect us. He put his life in danger by becoming a cop. Everyday when they wear the uniform it doen't mean they become someone else, they are themselves. People don't know what police see on their side because people are so stubern they just see what they want to see, bad cops, wrong. Dave, you will be in all our prayers forever and always, those that know will never forget all the good you have done for them and for me. Very much love, Colleen

It has been two years today since Dareman Dave was taken from us. Our family talks about him often. He was our son's dare officer and my husband Scott is a sheriff's deputy for Tehama County and worked with him. I know that Dave has touched our lives and we will remember him always. God bless Linda, Luke and all of the family. Our prayers are with you. Dave will live forever in all of the kids that he taught. He is a great man. A HERO forever !!

Another birthday has passed for you Dave. And another birthday where the only way we can reach you is thru prayers. Prayers which I know you hear. You must be so proud of Luke and Linda and your folks. Their strength and affection for you honors you. As you give us all the strength to get along, rest assured that justice will be done and that your memory has and will continue to inspire so so many good works in your name. And at night, when it is quiet please take a special moment to comfort those whom you know dampen their pillosw and miss you so terribly. It's been over a year since I first heard of the tragic loss of one of our fellow brothers, and stumbling across this site brings back the feelings of sadness and anger i felt upon hearing the sad news. My heart goes out to Linda and Luke Mobilio. May GOD bless you and comfort you. Having been blessed with a son in July, I question whether I chose the right profession or not, but when I "put it on" each morning and look to my right and left, I know that I am standing along-side my brothers and sisters. Dave...fell free to ride along side me any time.

Good-bye David, candles will burn, for you and all our brothers and sisters who wear a uniform, who have paid the ultimate price, so the rest of us can awake to a new day. Yet given the opportunity to stay safe, would charge ahead saying, "It's my duty!" You are in a safe place now, but I know you are part of God's security force, covering our six, still dedicated to safeguarding those you've left behind. God bless you and keep you safe, and until we meet, thank you. I retired, after thirty-two years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, and will spend the rest of my life loving, with all my heart, my brothers and sisters in uniform. For I know what we owe to those gone, and those "on the line" today, in harms way. You are those with you are in my prayers, God Bless.

I had no idea that this avenue, this way to connect was still available. It's the day after a year after that horrible day, but for too many stupid reasons, I couldn't carve out some time for you until today. So, I went to church by myself and had some time with you and the rest of your family. We all ache, but not surprisingly are holding on to each other to find the strength to support each other - especially Linda and Lukey and your Mom and Dad and Lynnie. Lukey has a lot of you in him - especially your smile and sparkley eyes. Your legacy lives on in him and in every police officer I see and thank. Be well my sweet Dave. We two, and Helen with us,have spent a few hours together looking atAlbums of Dave's life from infancy to fatherhood. We laughed and cried together with those happy memories, which we can not add to anymore. But Dave's life was filled with challenges, fun, joys, the love of family which made him a happy man. His loss is so deeply felt by us, and always will be, but we thank God for His gift to us of David, and for the strength and love which has come to us from around the globe. We would like to have shared with Laurie, Dick, Lynne, Linda & Luke, John and Tyler, the events of last night and today in Red Bluff where those wonderful people paid tribute yet again to our beloved David. God's blessings on all of you. From David's grandparents in Maine.

Davey, today is a very sad day. I cant believe you have been gone one year. We all miss you so much. Somedays, we laugh a lot thinking of all the silly things you have done. We have so many memories of you as a little boy. After Lukes visit here to Maine I am reminded of you so much;his expressions, movements, impishness and temperment. We try to look for the positive and marvel in your wifes' strength and bravery. We all miss you and keep you close to our hearts. So yes, today is a sad day, but we will smile on as many others knowing you are watching over us. Hugs, Aunt Helen

Hi, my name is Christine. I have been away from Red Bluff since 1992 and so I was unable to meet Dave. I am pretty sure he was a wonderful man from everything I have read and heard from my friends there in Red Bluff. I was nosing around on the internet this evening after I got off work and found this site. I speak to my best friend there quite a lot and she made me aware of this unspeakable act and I have been praying for you're family ever since. My brother was killed from a tragic fall there in the Tehema County Courthouse in 1987, so I know and understand you're pain. It didn't happen quite the same as Dave, you understand what I am getting at. Contact me, if you'd like.

Dave's family. Yesterday was Dave's birthday, I cannot imagine how painful it was. Dave was always a kind man. I remember when I was first hired as a reserve officer at RBPD and was assigned to ride with Dave. You see know one wants to take the reserve officer with them, but Dave always willing agreed to allow me the chance to ride with him on a shift. Dave was a person you could always count on when you needed help, even outside of work. He and Sgt. Marsh spent one whole day helping me hang sheetrock at my house. When I moved into my new house Dave came to help with the move. I was so touched by his love for Luke. It was all he could do to leave Luke with me while he went to help the other guys. It broke his heart when Luke started crying "Daddy", and he left the house with tears welling in his eyes. The day of his death my daughter asked me how will Luke manage without his father. I know now he will be okay because his mother is one of the strongest and loving people I have ever had the previlige to meet. Dave and Linda's love for one another was something you could actually feel when you were in their presence. When I became a full time police officer Dave was always more than willing to go with me and help in anyway he could. I miss our Friday afternoons on patrol when Dave and I would work a project together. As a department we are finally to a point where we can say "Dude" with out it choking up everyone in the squadroom. We talk about Dave often and remember all of the crazy pranks that were pulled on one another. Dave was great, not only could he take a good prank but he always had one for you. I hope his family knows that we will always remember and cherish our moments that we had with Dave. I thank you for sharing him with all of us and allowing us to be blessed by this great man. Dave is now our gardian angel and I know he ride passenger with me from time to time. God bless Linda and Luke for you knew true love. To Dave's parents, Lynne and John, my heart goes out to you everyday. You are always welcome at RBPD. Please accept my sincere condolences to each of you. Officer Kelly Meek, RBPD

After living most of my life in Red Bluff, I realize how close knit the community is. To have a loss this great is such a tragedy. To Linda, keep your son close and your husband's memories in his and your hearts forever. To Luke, your dad was a great honor to his community and to your family. Never forget him. He is truly a hero. God be with you both. May He bring you peace and comfort in this time of pain and difficulty. May His light forever shine on you.

I attended the funeral with a group of Deputies I work with in Sacramento County. Without a doubt the sadest event I have ever attended. I didn't know if I would cry for someone I did not know, there was not a dry eye in the house. I was proud to represent my county, and Officer Mobilio would of been proud of the City of Red Bluff and Tehama County for an unbelieveable memorial.

I have always had great respect and admiration for police officers and all they do to make our communities safe and peaceful. It never ceases to amaze me that there is a special breed of people out there who are willing to risk everything for people they don't even know. Daily, they go out into the communities and put it all on the line. Everything they are and everything they will ever be could be taken away in a heartbeat. Yet, they do it anyway. Courage. Sacrifice. Hardship. Officer Dave Mobilio's willingness to sacrifice himself for his fellow man represents law enforcement's highest traditions and reflects great honor on himself, his fellow officers and his family. As a grateful citizen, I wish to offer my sincerest condolences to Officer Mobilio and all who knew and loved him.

A death like this is something I do not think anyone will ever understand. We are not ment to make sense out of something so senseless. As I viewed the web page that was created for Daves family and friends I saw pictures of my own family and friends. My brother-in-law and a few childhood friends are also police officers in Red Bluff. I can not belive this happened in such a small, loving town. Today I finally had the strength to come to this page and send our condolences and prayers to the Mobilio Family. The pain and sorrow I feel are so strong. My husband is a deputy with the Tehema Co. Sheriff's Dept. and he gets gas where Dave got his gas. This could of happened to any of the fine men and women that protect our city and county. For this to have happened to such a good man is unthinkable. Dave not only protected our city but educated our children about right and wrong, good and bad. What happened to him was wrong and bad. Our son Mackenzie was one of his D.A.R.E. students this year. He cried when he found out about Officer Dave and still has a hard time with it. I thank you for sharing Dave with us. It's not fair what happened but God with have his wrath in the end. Dave is in a better place. As christians we know we will see him again and that he is watching over his family until they meet again. God bless you and comfort you in your loss.

My deepest condolences to the Mobilio Family for their recent loss. In my 18 years as an LA County Deputy I have had to witness the burial of many friends. As I reflect on the loss of my friends and the loss of Officer Mobilio, I am humbled. It seems we lose the really good ones when they are young. I truely believe that God calls the exceptional ones home, while they are young, because they have set them selves apart from the rest of us. We could only hope to be viewed in this manner when our time comes. We buried one of our own on Friday (12-6-02). Attending Deputy Powells funeral and seeing how he led his life, affirms my belief. God bless the Mobilio Family, his fellow Officers, Co-workers and Chief Petitt who I had the honor of working with early in my career.

As the new director of the Tehama County Social Services Department I heard many wonderful things about Dave and his work with children both in the schools and in situations with our social workers in Child Welfare helping protect the safety of vulnerable children from homes where they were at risk of abuse and neglect or endangerment. It was a shock to hear of his tragic death, and a shock and loss that our staff members are still reeling from. We talk about Dave often, and his memory is alive with all the many other professionals whose lives he touched as well as the many children who benefited from his intervention and his attention. To All of The Mobilio Family: There really are no adequate words to convey how very saddened I was to hear the news of David's tragic death. I keep going back to the last time I saw him, which was nine years ago on Cape Cod at his Grandparents' anniversary get-together where he was the target of much attention by his young cousins who spent much of the weekend pestering him for piggyback rides and climbing on him. Throughout it all David remained cheerful and accomodating and the little girls were thrilled with the fact that he continued to play with them. I remember marvelling at what a sweet and gentle young man he was. He was large in both size and heart! Obviously many other people who knew David felt the same way. It pains me to think of what you must be going through, for I cannot even imagine a despair so great. I pray that you will find the strength to go on from the brightness of the light that David cast onto others and know that this separation is only temporary. My heart and prayers will remain with all of you. Much love, CeCe

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department just lost Deputy Dave Powell on 30 November 2002. He was attempting to make entry to a potential hostage situation when he was gunned down. We understand loss. Our organization has had too much of it. Now both Daves, arm in arm, will patrol a different beat. We, the living, must never forget their sacrifices. Our sincere sympathies go out to the family.

Dear Dick, Laurie, Lynne, John, Linda & Luke, I just returned from a week in Maine where we spent hours sharing memories of our cousin, David. As I flipped through photo albums with my siblings, many pictures evoked particular stories. Whether David was posing with Travis in his Superhero underwear or braving life on the Sea Folley (despite being incredibly seasick), memories of the silly things that he had done immediately before or after each picture had us laughing through our tears. We miss David terribly and cannot fathom what you are going through. We are honored to have known a true hero and will fight to keep David’s memory alive. I wish to express my deepest condolences on your loss, and at the same time offer some thoughts that brought comfort to me when I faced similiar greif. The Bible makes the promise: “Your dead ones will live. . . . They will rise up.” And the Bible also says: “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.”—Isaiah 26:19; Psalm 37:29. Yes, Almighty God has not only the power but also the desire to resurrect persons whom he chooses. Jesus Christ himself said: “Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.”—John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15. When the enemy death strikes, our grief can be great. Even though you may not hope in the earthly resurrection at this time, I sincerely hope you examine these scriptures so as to find great comfort as I have. Please e-mail me if you feel the need to learn more about our Heavenly Father’s loving provision of the resurrection. Again, please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss. Mike Darling

I didn't know Officer Bosiglio, nor did I have to, for being brothers in the law enforcement community is sufficient for us to express our love and feelings, specially for our fallen comrades. When this first occurred, I became very incensed at the needless and cold bloodeness of the crime and was furiously angry at the perpetrator, however, I then became furious with our society's change's that now allow these types of cowards to rampantly prey on innocent people without fear of atonement for their crimes. My prayers go out to the officers family and to the department that he so faithfully served, and to the community for their loss of a fine officer and person. Carlos L. I was fortunate to meet Mobe in the Craig Hall dorms during our first semester in Chico. While beginning our adult lives in Chico away from our homes, we met many new people and there was a group of us that have always remained extremely good friends. I am so saddened by Mobes death, as this group of friends will never be the same. He was always there if you needed a friend or if you just needed a good laugh. As an outsider looking in, the past week I have experienced many emotions. It breaks my heart to see Dave's loved ones suffer so much. There was so much pain in the faces of everyone everywhere that it was almost unbearable. Yet I was so fortunate to meet this wonderful family and see that yes, true love does exist. The parents of these two people, Linda and Dave, must be overwhelmed with pride. Linda, you were so loved. Some people wait a lifetime for that. You had the real deal. Take comfort in that. Give that love to Luke. You are so strong; I can't help but to think Dave was there to carry you through. Reach out to those who love you, and there are so many, let them be your strength. I take away a different outlook on life from this tragedy. I want to be a better person. I want people I love to know I love them. If every person feels this ....Then Dave is still at work somewhere...

I am one of Dave's best friends and the godfather to his son Luke. I am so deeply sorrowed by the loss of this noble man and have so many great memories that will never be forgotten. I will never be able to express my words to the family. My heart is broke, but I cannot begin to imagine the pain of Linda, Luke, Nancy, Jim, Mike, Richard, Laurie, Lynn, John and the rest of the family. The only thing I can do is offer all of you my love, support and the reassurance that I, Luke’s godfather, will be a positive role model in his life. I am forever changed by this tragedy and hope through love and support we can all find comfort that “Mobe” will always be in our hearts. None of us in our wildest dreams expected anything like this to ever happen. I know through our love of Mobe and his family, we will honor Dave and help Luke carry on the legacy of the Mobilio family name. Love, Chris

Being the wife of a Red Bluff Police Officer it broke my heart this week to see all of the officers and their familes struggle with the tragedy with struck our small town last week. I feel in my heart that Dave knows how the community came out and showed he and his family so much love and respect. He would have been so proud. My heart goes out to Linda and Luke and all of the family memebrs that we watched say goodbye with their hearts breaking for a man they loved so very much. I just want to say that Ofc. David Molbilio was a personal friend of mine. I grew up with Dave "Moby"Mobilio and went to Elementary, Middle, and High School with Dave. I kept in touch with him after High School and we even worked together for a short time at a local Saratoga grocery store. Dave and I became Police Officers at about the same time. I work as a Police Officer at San Jose State University. I also had close ties with the Chico area because I went to school there and saw Dave many times. I went on a ride-a-long with Dave after we were both full time Police Officers and I still remember that time. His sudden death has had a profound affect on me and will for the rest of my life. Dave was truly a great guy and a fantastic Police Officer. My heart goes out to Linda and Luke and his family. It was an honor for me to be a part of his mememorial service and see the Red Bluff community come out in astounding numbers. The emotions I felt were hard to keep back. Red Bluff is truly a small town that will forever be in my heart. Dave died a hero. Dave will always be a hero to me. I will never forget. Corporal Paul Marshall

I write on this night before Thanksgiving, thinking about how painful and poignant it must be for those who love(d) Dave. Everywhere in the country, families and friends are gathering, homes are filled with cheer, with the aromas of foods being prepared and with happy memories of holidays past. The holidays set the circumstances of our lives, both good and bad, into italics. This must be so tough for his family. I never knew Dave, though I can sense from the tributes written about him that he was a wonderful person, a gift to those who had the good fortune to have him in their lives. His uncle and godfather, Todd Follansbee in Connecticut, is an old friend of mine. Reflecting on my own years of public service here in northwestern Vermont, I recall many times when I have been grateful for the polic and for the courageous and extraordinary work they do to keep us all safe. To Dave's family, friends and colleagues, please know that people all over the country hold you in their hearts and wish you peace and rest as you adjust to his loss.

I find myself telling our Dave "be safe" as he goes on duty and this is yet another reminder of why it is so important for us to remember our sons /daughters in prayers for their safety, as they serve and protect us. I know this is a sad time for the Mobilio family and I stand with the Mobilio family as they remember Dave Mobilio's life with pride. He certainly lived up to and was worthy of the title of being his city's "Finest". Bill Britton, JSO, City of Santa Clara

To the Mobilio family: I cannot begin to imagine your grief, but I know you are probably struggling with the "what if..." "If Dave wasn't a police officer he would be alive...etc." Always remember that if he was not an officer he would not be the man you loved or the man so many children looked up to or learned from. I drove into town late Monday night and as most of the people slept I felt Dave's presence. In that quiet time, which I am sure he spent many shifts, he was there in the blue glow illuminating the town. He is watching over us still. I only hope that the solidarity shown by the community is enough to show, he did not die in vain. "If" he was not an officer he would not have touched so many of us, in so many ways. My deepest sympathy. To the RBPD: I know that many times in your chosen profession you feel isolated. You endure insults, attacks-verbal & physical, lack of support, and criticism of your every action on a daily basis. Many times it is a thankless job. I pray each of you saw every face of your town lining the streets Tuesday not only in honor of Dave but in support of each of you who do the job every day. We should say it more often but THANK YOU! Also know that you will never ride alone again. You will always have your very own guardian angel in the seat beside you. For your loss, I am sorry. To All the Officer's Significant Others: Kiss them good-bye every time. Tell them you love them. You don't want to say "If only..." To All the Law Enforcement Agencies aiding and participating in the memorial: Thank you. A truly amazing display of support and brotherly love. I am speechless.

Here is myy tribute to Dave from the Memorial service. I am Todd Follansbee, Laurie’s brother, Dave’s uncle and godfather from New England. We have been New Englanders for nearly 400 years, farmers, merchants, businessmen, sailors but also pubic servants both paid and unpaid. Dave comes from a tradition of people who believed that a great society is possible only if all it’s people find a way to contribute. Dave was one of the richest people I know. Like every person in blue here today, Dave made a conscious choice. It was: “I will be made rich; not by how much I can get but instead by how much I can give.” As long as I can remember, Dave wanted to be a peace officer. This was his hard fought goal; many of us knew how hard he had to work to get this job. He loved his work. --------- He loved his work from the kids to his partners, to the challenges. Let us not cry because Dave failed to get a big piece of his professional dream. He reached that dream. To be in the presence of Linda and Dave was to be in the presence of a palpable, visible, and powerful love that you could actually feel. It was incredible, it was uplifting, and it filled the room as it filled your heart. It was wondrous and it came from two people that were raised in love and whom God brought together. Let us not cry for because we fear that Dave did not know love, for he and Linda knew a love we can all aspire to. A love his friends all knew, a love that Luke will always feel a part of. Dave lived an incredible life, not without challenges, but with a family that defies description for loving, sharing, and enjoying life. A father that brought him to the ends of the earth and taught him by example to be the man he became. Laurie, his Mom taught him love and respect for woman, her friends to a person treasure the wondrous person she is. She blessed his young life beyond measure. Let us not cry for what Dave missed out in his 31 short years cause up to last Tuesday he missed out on practically nothing. Bless his family for this. But let us cry, and loudly, for our loss. Our world is diminished. Let our wails reach Dave as he looks with amazement upon this tribute we give him for he never took a step for glory alone. So now that you know a bit about those who have gone before Dave and our love for America and the sea. Though in all honesty I have to admit that the thing he did best on the ocean was to get seasick. I always suspected that was a big part of the reason Dave ended up in Red Bluff. I think I have dumped more water out of my sea boots than you have in the whole county! No wonder he loved it here I hope then that you will allow me a short poem for Dave and the sea. Watch, if you will, that beautiful ship slip away from his dock out into the open sea, finally to pass below the horizon. Someone says, next to us, “Well, there he goes!” Gone? Gone where? - Only from our own sight. No, he is just as large of mast and hull and sail as when he was here. His departure and diminished size is in us, not in him. And just as that moment comes when someone says, “There, he's gone”. Other voices are ready to take up the glad shout, “Here he comes!” Please know that these voices are many, the welcome is great and Dave knows peace and love and honor. Spending the last few days with Laurie and Dick, my sisters and our parents (and many more) family and friends, not an hour has gone by that we have not given thanks for the support of this wonderful community Red Bluff and this amazing fraternity of Blue. I wish I could tell you how much this has helped us all. I want you to know that it has brought smiles, even laughs to tear stained faces as we have mourned and tried to celebrate Dave’s life We would never have dared to ask for all the support we have received. You have our deepest appreciation. I ask that when the tears have slowed down, as we begin to accept and integrate life without the physical presence of Dave, let us always celebrate him, let us always remember, let us, each and every one, make the simple choices every single day that bring peace to our world. Do it for Dave, do it for yourselves, do it because there is no other way. Let us also remember that Dave was rich beyond measure because of the path he walked. May God help us all to know the happiness he had. Thanks to you all and may god bless you and the land we love.

I am the wife of a police officer in Sacramento CA. We would like to extend our sympathy & condolences to the Mobilio Family as well as the law enforcement family. I would like to share with you a heartfelt poem about our men and women that serve & protect us. "A Part of America Died" Somebody killed a policeman today, and a piece of America died. A piece of our country he swore to protect, will be buried with him at his side. The suspect who shot him will stand up in court, with councel demanding his rights. While a young widowed mother must work for her kids, and spend many long lonely nights. The beat he rode was a battle field too, just as if he had gone off to war. Though the flag of our nation won't fly at halfmast, to his name they will add a gold star. Yes, somebody killed a policeman today, it happened in your town or mine. While we slept in confort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line. Now his ghost rides a beat on a dark city street, and he stands at each new rookies side. He answered the call, and he gave us his all, and a part of America dies. Author unknown Our thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless to all.

We at the Olympia Police Department would like to extend our deepest regrets and warmest prayers to Ofc. Dave Mobilio and his family. It personally hits home with me because I worked in our schools and with youth like Dave, I also grew up in Redding and spent alot of time in Red Bluff as a kid, and I was the officer who assisted the Ca. Department of Justice in locating the residence of Andrew McCrae. I volunteered to be the first officer to protect the scene until the D.O.J. could come up and process the scene. I am sorry that one of our cities many activist has come into your life in such a way. I do not know the man, Dave Mobilio, but I do feel that I know the officer. I know that he was well liked and repected, I also know that his family is very proud of him. With best wishes and prayers Ofc. Paul Evers - Olympia Police Department
